YouTube continues to reshape the user experience on its platform with AI technologies. As of this week, the company has started testing two new AI-based features for users in the US. One of the features is available only to Premium subscribers, while the other has entered a limited distribution that includes free users.
YouTube is introducing new AI functions
The new feature prepared for Premium users comes into play in themed searches such as shopping, travel, or activities that can be done in a specific location. When this feature is active, a suggestion bar consisting of video clips selected by AI appears in the search results.
The suggested content is listed with short descriptions of content creators who have produced videos in relevant areas. Premium subscribers who want to use this experience must register via YouTube’s experimental features page.
Another AI tool that YouTube is testing is the speech-based assistant feature. This interactive tool, which was made available only to Premium members about two years ago, is now available to free users in a limited way.
Thanks to the feature, users can ask questions without interrupting the video viewing experience and receive content suggestions based on these questions. The tool, which currently only works on Android devices with English language support, is also being activated gradually for users in the US.
Both features are still in the testing phase and access is currently limited to certain users. YouTube plans to develop these AI-powered tools based on feedback and bring them to a wider user base in the future. The company positions AI not only as a supporting tool, but also as a fundamental building block that facilitates content discovery.
